16th Annual Environmental Science Fair
This Mother's Day weekend was more than a celebration of the mothers in our lives, it was a celebration of Mother Earth. Over 130 fifth through eighth grade students from Chadwick, Calle Mayor Middle, Dodson Middle, Grand View, Gardner Street, Parras Middle, Robinson Elementary, 156th Avenue Elementary, Luther Burbank Middle, Miraleste Intermediate, Orville Wright Middle, Richardson Middle, Stephen White Middle, and Bert Lynn Middle Schools participated in the 16th Annual SBBEC Environmental Science Fair held at the Aviation Gym in Redondo Beach, May 10, 2008.
First, second, and third place prizes (beautiful globes--made of recycled glass, of course!) were presented to students at each grade level. In addition to the grade level awards, a 5th/6th grade winner and a 7th/8th winner were selected for "Most Innovative Solutions in Alternative Energy." Click here for the 2008 list of winners. Every student who participated received a certificate, event T-shirt, and a goody bag filled with giveaways from our sponsors.
The Environmental Science Fair, which is organized by the SBBEC, is the only fair of its kind in California , and has been recognized with a Public Education Award by the Keep California Beautiful organization. The Fair is an annual event which is typically held in the spring. For information about participating in or sponsoring our 2009 Fair, please contact Jill Brunkhardt.
